This large Pratt Through Truss bridge crosses the Little Arkansas River near Halstead.
Built in 1913, this massive bridge features a 7-panel, pin connected Pratt Through Truss. An ATSF bridge book suggests this bridge may not have been installed until 1915. This single span rests on concrete abutments.
While the pin connected design generally died out around 1910, this bridge is like many other ATSF Bridges and is one of the later examples of a pin connected truss.
An additional feature of the bridge is the massive ballast channel built to hold a double track railroad, plus several tons of ballast.
Overall, this bridge remains in good condition.
The author has ranked this bridge as being moderately significant, due to the truss design.
The photo above is an overview. The bridge can be accessed from the parallel wooded area.
